Fibre from a goat – but a very luxurious goat! The fibre is downy-soft, warm, light and fine. 90 percent of cashmere goats are farmed in China and Mongolia so the vast majority of products are imported. Cashmere fibres have thin cuticle cells that create the velvety feel and making it perfect for knitwear.

Meet Cashmere Goats at Creswick Woollen Mills
Thursday, 2 October 2014
10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Meet baby Goats at Creswick Woollen Mills on 2nd of October to 5th of October.
In the month of October we are celebrating Cashmere Fibre. Fibre from a goat, but a very luxurious goat! The fibre is downy-soft, warm, light and fine. 90 percent of cashmere goats are farmed in China and Mongolia so the vast
majority of products are imported. Cashmere fibres have thin cuticle cells that create the velvety feel and making it perfect for knitwear.
On the 2nd to the 5th of October we have Baby Cashmere goats: Come and have a pat and cuddle of these beautifully soft babies. You can hand feed chaff (dried hay) and watch the tiny babies have their bottles.
Shaping stone is easier than you might think. You can create a beautiful bird bath in this 2 day weekend workshop. Relief carving is cutting decorative images into a stone surface using hammer and chisel. A 100mm (4 inch) angle grinder is used for bowl cutting. Simple designs - Celtic knots, basic leaf and flower shapes - will be available or bring along your own. A selection of basalt rocks will be provided but feel free to bring your own piece of stone. Contact the Centre for details regarding equipment and tools
