 Daylesford Highland Gathering

On December 6th, Daylesford is taken over by bagpipes, kilts, drums, dancers, shortbread and Clans Tents. The gathering includes a 9.30am parade through Vincent Street and a full day of Dancing, Piping, Drumming and Scottish culture are on display.

Central Victoria’s Daylesford is known for its fine food and wine, its mineral springs and its luxury accommodation.
On the first Saturday in December, Daylesford becomes known for its tartan, its kilts, its bagpipes, dancers, shortbread and Clan Tents when Daylesford Highland Gathering takes over.
If the sound of the bagpipes makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck you are in for a treat.
The gathering commences with a street parade featuring Victoria’s best pipers and highland bands in Daylesford’s main street with hundreds of spectators, many in kilts, lining the footpaths before heading up to Victoria Park to continue its music, dancing and Scottish History.

 Mosaics with Justine

Mosaic is the art of creating decorative designs from small pieces of tile and other suitable materials. Learn this expressive and rewarding technique to decorate surfaces around the home using your own style. This class will suit the beginner using ceramic tile pieces on a 30cm x 30cm surface. An intermediate class will run in term 4 subject to enrolments.

 Stone Carving Workshop  
Saturday, 6 December 2014
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Shaping stone is easier than you might think. You can create a beautiful bird bath in this weekend workshop. Relief carving is cutting decorative images into a stone surface using hammer and chisel. A 100mm angle grinder is used for bowl cutting. Simple designs - Celtic knots, basic leaf and flower shapes - will be available or bring along your own. A selection of basalt rocks will be provided but feel free to bring your own piece of stone. Contact the Centre for details regarding equipment and tools.

 Glenlyon Handmade Xmas Fair

he inaugural Glenlyon Handmade Xmas Fair is part craft market, part farmers market and is timed to fit perfectly with your search for that special present or food for the Christmas table: gorgeous gifts that are distinctly different, nibbles crammed with seasonal tastes and home-grown ingredients.

We are looking for Hepburn Shire’s best and brightest designers, crafters, hobbyists and food and wine producers to showcase their skills. Stalls are only $10.

Entry is free - the public is being encouraged to make an evening of it. Come hungry and buy from the stallholders or BYO picnic tea. There’ll be musicians and entertainment for the children (of all ages!).

 Woven in Time - Basket Weaving

Learn an old/new ecologically sustainable craft in this eco friendly basketry workshop. Use traditional techniques and natural fibres to create your own beautiful and functional basket. Explore the principles and ethics of permaculture and make a natural woven basket to take home. Jill is a natural fibre Basket Maker, Permaculture Design Consultant, and a passionate teacher of traditional crafts. Class notes are included but please bring along an apron, old towel, secateurs, scissors, strong thread (linen if available), large-eyed needles, colourful threads and other embellishments, and some lunch.

 Edible Wild Plants Walk

Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the back streets, lanes, and gardens of Creswick in search of edible wild plants. You might be surprised to discover edible and tasty plants growing right under your feet that in the past you have destroyed or ignored. Discuss the culinary and medicinal uses of a variety of wild plants or weeds and get tips on where to look to find them all year round as well as learning about which ones to avoid. Once you’ve collected a variety of wild plants enjoy a demonstration and tasting of how these plants can be used in your kitchen.
