 Spirit of China in Creswick - Open Weekends & Public Holidays Only

2014 will be the Year of the Horse and the Museum will stage an exhibition featuring the Chinese who came to Creswick “the New Gold Mountain” to make their fortune. Some made it, unfortunately not everyone did, some stayed and made their life in Creswick but others moved on. In Creswick they left their mark in the development of the town and district. The Lindsay brothers told tales and produced artworks of the Chinese camp near their home. The exhibition will illustrate items in the local paper "Creswick Advertiser" with items from the Museum's collection, private collectors and other organisations.
The exhibition is open weekends and public holidays only.

 Anderson Mill Festival - Smeaton

Smeaton’s historic Anderson’s Mill be again be buzzing with excitement and activity on April 6th this year. Delicious local produce, award winning local wines and a great mix of music will again be on offer. The Newlyn Football Netball Club and its many volunteers will be running the festival in conjunction with Parks Victoria and the Hepburn Shire Council. 2014 will be the 10th year that the club has run the event and has successfully made it family friendly and accessible to local producers and local community groups. All manner of stalls will be at the festival including art and craft stalls, home made preserves, boutique brewery, a wonderful variety of different food stalls and the very best of local wines.

 Anderson Mill Festival - Smeaton

Smeaton’s historic Anderson’s Mill be again be buzzing with excitement and activity on April 6th this year. Delicious local produce, award winning local wines and a great mix of music will again be on offer.
The music begins with very talented kids and teachers from the Ballarat High School whose performances are always a highlight of the day. Next up will be the energetic and up and coming Melbourne twins, the Pierce Brothers followed by 5 piece country- folk- rock outfit the Merri Creek Pickers.
Activities for the kids is always a great feature of the festival and this year, as well as face painting , model making and pony rides, Farmer Darryl’s mobile animal farm will be there. Other attractions will include sheep shearing, working dog and woodworking demonstrations as well as wood chopping and the popular tours of the mill itself.

 Trentham Easter Art and Craft Show

The Annual Trentham Easter Art and Craft Show will be on again from 18th to 21st April.
The 2013 Show attracted over 2000 visitors,327 entries, with 58 pieces being sold, with an ever increasing interest in the Craft section. Trentham “small town – big talent!”
Funds from last year’s show have been used to install a Gallery Hanging system in the Mechanics Hall, funding for the Trentham Aged Care Facility towards an “Arts” activities programme and the commencement of production of new display stands.
The judges this year will be Mark Payne for Art (formally of the “Artist’s Muse” in Trentham) and Helen McRae for Craft (see Helen at her “textile creations” shop, “Jargon” in Trentham)
Opening night is Thurs 17th April when the awards will be announced and presented. Works will be available for sale from 7.30pm, along with supper and drinks (cost $15pp). All welcome!

 Fungi: An Introduction to a Curious Kingdom

This workshop will introduce participants to the curiosities of the Kingdom Fungi.

It includes an interactive and illustrated seminar exploring the major fungal groups, tips for fungus identification, fungal ecology, natural and cultural history of fungi, followed by an exciting foray into local forests to search for species of interest.

Many fungi from the local area will be displayed and examined during the workshop.

Morning tea and supplementary notes are provided. Cost $75

 The Bizarre and the Beautiful: A Deeper Exploration of the Kingdom Fungi

This workshop will take participants deep into the fungi kingdom with a close look at the major characteristics used to identify fungi in the field.

The workshop includes an illustrated seminar, a display of local specimens, an interactive fungus identification session and a foray into local forests.
