Crossing Borders Tracks and Trails  Printer Friendly

The Crossing Borders Tracks and Trails Project is a joint initiative of Hepburn Shire Council, Ballarat City Council, Macedon Ranges Shire Council, Central Goldfields Shire Council, Department of Planning and Community Development and Department of Transport.

The purpose of the project is to investigate proposals for the establishment or enhancement of four key tracks and trails projects, specifically the development of new iconic pathways (Cobb and Co Trail from Maryborough to Ballarat, and the Daylesford to Macedon Ranges Rail Trail) and the detailed planning of two predominantly mountain bike/walking trail projects (Black Hill Trails, and Creswick Trails Initiative).

The Crossing Borders Tracks and Trails Project will provide an integrated and coordinated approach to major trail master planning and maximise opportunities for social, recreational and tourism benefits from the four proposed projects.

The project will also review funding and ownership responsibilities, consider opportunities to increase participation and outline a recommended approach to management and maintenance of major trails, with a focus on sustainable trail design to set a benchmark for future trail projects in Australia.
