Planning involves making decisions in the best interest of the Shire across a wide number of issues including dwelling locations, vegetation removal & revegetation, commercial development and protection of the environment.
A planning permit is not always required to use or develop land. Planning schemes do allow some change in land use without the need for a permit providing conditions are met. Some uses or development, however, may be prohibited.
A planning permit should not be confused with a building permit. A planning permit is issued by your local council prior to a building permit.
If a planning permit is required, a building permit canít be granted until the building surveyor is satisfied that any relevant planning permit has been obtained.
A building permit is issued under the Building Regulations 1994 and generally relates only to the construction of a particular building or development.
Building permits can be issued by your local council or by a private building surveyor.
