At the statutory meeting held last night, Council elected Councillors Licia Kokocinski (Coliban Ward) and John Cottrell (Holcombe Ward) as Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
Cr Kokocinski commenced in her role of Councillor in 2019, having been elected at a bi-election.
Mayor, Cr Kokocinski, said that she intended to use the office of Mayor to focus on embedding contemporary governance practices for the Council and overseeing the development and implementation of a Planning Scheme for the Shire that attempts to balance the many competing interests that are clearly evident in a peri-urban area of Victoria. She said it was absolutely imperative that we manage growth, but protecting our beautiful environment, and at the same time as ameliorating the impacts of climate change.
“These are the top priorities for this Shire. Our CEO, Mr Evan King and his team are completely behind the Council’s priorities, and we will need to continue to maintain top class financial stewardship for the whole Shire,” said Cr Kokocinski.
Evan King, CEO, congratulated Councillors Kokocinski and Cottrell on their election.
“I’m pleased to be working with Councillors Kokocinski and Cottrell as they lead Council for the final year of this term. I look forward to working closely with both Councillors, and the rest of the Council team, as we move into a busy 2020, delivering important services and infrastructure projects for our community,” said Mr King.
