Now that the improvement works are well underway at Lake Daylesford, Council will be commencing the Improvement Project at the Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve (HMSR).  This project aims to improve the visitor experience at the reserve, which remains one of the popular resident and visitor destinations in the Hepburn Shire.  The HMSR is of state significance due to the rich history surrounding the area and the unique nature of the natural mineral springs located there.

Council have received $128,000 funding from the Victorian Mineral Springs Reserve Grants Program and have allocated a further $145,000 towards the project.

The scope of works have largely been driven by a series of reports and management plans produced over the years including:

  • HMSR Management Plan (CPG Australia Pty Ltd, 2009)
  • HMSR Pedestrian & Traffic Movement Plan (RW Stamp & Associated Pty Ltd, 2013)
  • Victorian Mineral Springs Strategic Master Plan 2015-2024 (Victorian Mineral Water Committee, 2015)

Works will include:

  • New gateway, destination and wayfinding signage and upgrade to existing signage,
  • Improvements to gateway landscaping
  • Upgrades to picnic car park area
  • Construction of new pathways connecting the Reserve to the township of Hepburn Springs via the new pedestrian bridge and internal paths to improve access
  • Upgrade to the plantings within the Reserve including the North and South banks and the Soda Springs Gardens of exotic and native species
  • A series of minor upgrades to bins, interpretive signage, lighting and gates

In line with these works, the Pavilion Cafe will also be undergoing repairs and improvements  through funding from Victoria’s Heritage Restoration Fund with restoration works to the roof and roof structure commencing in February 2017.

The first Community Consultation session will be held at the Pavilion Cafe on Thursday 9 February at 11.00am.  Council’s project officers will be there to explain the planned works and answer any queries or questions you may have.
