At the June 2020 meeting, Council resolved to place the revised Hepburn planning scheme on exhibition and to seek community submissions.
The Planning Scheme is the overarching legal document that states how land can be used and developed across the municipality. In 2019, the Shire undertook a formal review of the entire Planning Scheme and now a draft revised Scheme has been prepared.
Known as Amendment C80hepb, the Planning Scheme amendment proposes to replace the existing Municipal Strategic Statement and Local Planning Policies with a Municipal Planning Strategy and 19 new local policies. Most importantly the revised scheme emphasises the importance of protecting the Shire’s significant landscapes and biodiversity and its low scale historic townships from inappropriate development whilst as the same time supporting the local economy and its enterprises.
The 2019 Hepburn planning scheme review also identified further strategic planning work that Council needs to undertake, including a land supply review of commercial, industrial and residential land, a housing strategy, further biodiversity work and ongoing heritage studies.
The community will be notified via direct mail and newspapers when the formal exhibition commences.
Only written submissions can be received.
