During November, 2,682 vehicles came through Council’s transfer stations to dispose of green waste for free to support fire readiness.
Mayor, Cr Tony Clark, said that the free green waste disposal month encourages residents to prepare their property for summer.
“The annual program is highly anticipated by the community who take the opportunity to clear their properties in preparation for the fire season,” he said.
The materials received will be mulched, and 400 cubic metres will be available for residents to self-load for free (or a fee of $12 if assisted by a transfer station attendant).
“This year we noted an increased number of vehicles coming in to use the service, which meant that we had an additional 700 cubic metres to process, compared with the same period last year,” he said.
Council is pleased to be able to offer this service and support community readiness; we also acknowledge the total cost for the program this year will be $78,650.
“Unfortunately, there is a cost for everything. And mulching the green waste that is disposed of for free, does incur a cost for Council,” said Cr Clark.
The Fire Danger Period for Hepburn Shire started on Monday 24 November, which means there are fire restrictions in place until the fire danger lessens. Residents can find out what they can and can’t do on the CFA website.
