Since putting out our statement on 26 January, Australia Day, we've seen a lot of misinformation floating around on social media.
Our position on 26 January has not changed and the statement just reaffirms what we have been doing for many years. We stand with DJAARA (Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation) and our position is line with our Council Plan 2025–2029 and INNOVATE Reconciliation Action Plan.
For those who would like to attend, there are Australia Day community-led events in Trentham and Clunes, which we provide support to. More information at Australia Day community events 2026.
Council services such as bin collections, transfer stations, visitor information centres and pools will be open as usual. Council hubs and libraries will be closed.
We hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable long weekend however you choose to spend it.
