As we move toward the Christmas break and the pace of life starts to soften just a little, I’ve been thinking a lot about the people who help make Hepburn Shire such a genuinely welcoming place. It’s easy to admire the beauty of our towns, our landscapes, our natural springs, but what really stays with people, whether they live here or are just passing through, is the kindness and effort of the people who keep our community thriving.

I want to start with a sincere thank you to the volunteers at the Visitor Information Centres. You are often the first friendly faces visitors meet, and the warmth you bring to every conversation sets the tone for their entire experience in our region. You don’t just hand out brochures, you offer reassurance, enthusiasm, and that special local insight that can turn a simple visit into a memorable one. Your contribution is enormous, even if your work often happens quietly and without fanfare. Please know that we see it, we value it, and we are truly grateful.

I also want to extend my thanks to our hardworking Council staff. Whether you’re supporting residents, maintaining our facilities, planning, or keeping our operations running smoothly behind the scenes, your work touches every corner of the Shire. So much of what makes our community function and flourish, comes from your dedication. Your professionalism, patience, and commitment to serving the people of Hepburn Shire deserves recognition, especially after what has been another busy and demanding year.

On a personal note, being elected Deputy Mayor has been a humbling experience. I’m genuinely honoured by the trust that has been placed in me. It’s a responsibility I take seriously, and I look forward to working collaboratively with Councillors, staff, volunteers, and community members to continue building a Shire we can all be proud of. I’m committed to listening, to supporting good ideas, and to helping ensure our community remains connected, caring, and forward-looking.

As Christmas approaches, I want to wish everyone a season filled with rest, warmth, and good company. However, you spend this time (catching up with family, sharing meals with friends, enjoying a quieter pace, or simply taking a well-earned breather) I hope it brings you joy and a sense of renewal.

To our volunteers, Council staff, and wider community: thank you. Your efforts, large and small, help make Hepburn Shire the special place it is.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a bright, hopeful new year.
