Join our special guest storyteller along with Birdie and Mr Frog as they learn about different natural disasters and find out how to cope and recover from stressful events.

It’s a great way to help kids feel safe during stressful times and help them to understand emergencies.

Birdie’s Tree is an award winning set of storybooks and resources created by the Queensland Centre for Perinatal and Infant Mental Health (QCPIMH) to help children and families going through natural disasters and disruptive events.

Birdie and the very hot day

One day when Birdie woke up early, the sun was shining very brightly.

"Phew!" said Birdie. "It's so hot today!"

"We must get out of the sun," said Mr Frog.

It’s so hot, Birdie and Mr Frog have to find ways to cool down and feel better.

Birdie and the very hot day is a story to help young children:

  • learn what happens when it gets very hot
  • learn how to stay cool and safe in a heatwave
  • work through angry or cross feelings
  • learn how to have fun in the shade or indoors
  • understand that it will cool down in the end.
