Change to Hepburn Shire's Electoral Structure

Following a review in 2023, the Minister for Local Government has announced a new electoral structure for Hepburn Shire.

The changes will move our Shire from 5 wards with 7 Councillors, to no wards with 7 Councillors. Voters will be able to vote for any candidate, regardless of where they or the candidate live in the municipality.

The new structure will take effect from the next local government election in October 2024.

The full report is available on the Local Government Victoria website at https://www.localgovernment.vic.gov.au/council-governance/electoral-representation-advisory-panels-eraps

Voting in Local Government elections

The election will be conducted by mail.

If you are enrolled to vote on the State electoral roll with an address in Hepburn Shire, you will be required to vote in the local government election.

If you are a rate-payer, but do not reside in the municipality, you are also eligible to enrol to vote. More information about this process will be available in the coming months.

Voting is compulsory for all enrolled voters. Enrolment will close on 30 August 2024.
