Council adopts Creswick Flood Mitigation Study
Published on 26 May 2026
At this week's meeting, Council adopted the 2026 Creswick Flood Mitigation Study, following detailed modelling and stakeholder engagement.
Mayor, Cr Tony Clark, said that the study provides an updated evidence base to help guide future flood mitigation works, emergency planning and build community resilience.
“The updated study builds on earlier work carried out in 2012 by expanding the study area, applying updated modelling techniques, incorporating climate change considerations, and aligning findings with recent flood events. It also examines additional risks associated with stormwater and overland flows,” he said
The findings give Council a clear basis for prioritising future mitigation projects and strengthening local emergency preparedness. Implementation of the recommended projects is expected to require significant external funding, and Council will continue to advocate for support from other levels of government.
“This study gives us a stronger understanding of flood risk in Creswick and helps ensure future decisions are guided by the best available evidence. It will help inform practical next steps for flood mitigation, emergency management and future planning,” said Cr Clark.
“We would like to extend our gratitude to the Creswick community and project stakeholders for their invaluable input into the study,” he said.
Council will consider the study recommendations as part of its ongoing work to improve community resilience and plan for future flood risks in Creswick.
