There seems to be no end to the things this community does, and being a Councillor gives me the opportunity to enjoy those activities alongside community members and share in their creativity. The Shire, I find, is so diverse, from our major festivals to our smaller art shows and other activities.
Recently, I was able to appreciate some great work from our road crews, some of the best work done by our own Council workers. To see drainage becoming a priority is fantastic. Many are looking forward to the clean-up for fire season and we need to be mindful that this season has started already.
This column also gives me the opportunity to thank those in the community who, despite tough times and decisions, still have a kind word and appreciate the work we do. We cannot please everyone but there is so much well-placed pride in our community that it makes it a pleasure to be a Councillor.
I look forward to the installation of more blue trees to remind us of those in stress and the need to be alert for signs that some of our community members are suffering from depression and anxiety and to reach out and be supportive.
As my term as Mayor ends, I look forward to the election of our new Mayor and seeing what they will bring for us going forward. As Mayor, I got to see what happens in other areas and I can assure you that despite being a small Shire, we compare very well and way above in some areas of our work.
