Funding secured for road upgrades across the Shire

Council has successfully secured $2.22 million of Victorian Government funding for six important projects around the Hepburn Shire. Council is contributing $321,000 across all the projects. The funding comes from the Victorian Government’s Safe Local Roads and Streets Program (SLRSP) which provides funding to support infrastructure upgrades that reduce road trauma and improve safety outcomes for all road users.
Mayor, Cr Tony Clark, said that this a significant investment in our roads, almost exclusively funded by the Victorian Government.
“We welcome this substantial investment from the Victorian Government, which will deliver safer, more reliable roads for our community. This funding will allow us to accelerate critical road improvement works, improve connectivity, and support local growth while ensuring residents and visitors can travel more safely and efficiently throughout the region.”
“We’re investing $2.54 million on local road improvements while only having to contribute 13 per cent of the total project costs,” he said.
The projects are:
- Victoria and Cambridge streets, Creswick
- Pearsons Road and James Lane intersection, Fern Hill
- Ligar Street, Clunes
- Stanbridge Street, Daylesford (Stage 1 and Stage 2)
- Bath Street, Trentham
- Central Springs Road, Daylesford
The projects are being delivered by Council in partnership with the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) and the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).
“A core criteria of the funding is it can only be used to delivery outcomes on Council-managed roads and not arterial roads managed by DTP”, said Cr Clark.
“We will be delivering a range of works, including intersection upgrades, pedestrian connections and road crossings, lighting, drainage and speed reductions, among other safety improvements,” he said.
The six projects are at different stages of delivery and approval from the funding agency, with construction anticipated to be completed by end October 2026, subject to tender outcomes.
