Council is encouraging residents to rediscover the many benefits of their local library.
From free access to books, movies and large print materials to engaging events like rhyme time, school holiday programs and book clubs, Hepburn Libraries offer something for all ages and interests. Members can also take advantage of computer access, printing and free Wi-Fi, along with welcoming spaces to study, read or simply relax.
Mayor, Cr Don Henderson, said that our libraries are vibrant community hubs that support lifelong learning, digital access, and social connection.
“We want to make sure everyone knows just how much their local library has to offer,” said Cr Don Henderson.
Council is also looking forward to the upcoming rollout of Open Access Libraries, which will allow inducted members to use library spaces outside of staffed hours.
“Open Access will provide even greater flexibility and convenience where community members can head to their local library and pick up their holds, borrow books or use the printer between 8 am and 8 pm, seven days per week.”
“This is a wonderful initiative to enhance the community's library experience and will make our library spaces and study areas more accessible during unconventional hours, catering to those who work full-time or face time constraints that prevent them from visiting during regular hours,” said Cr Don Henderson.
Security will be upgraded to ensure a safe environment, including automatic sensor lighting, security cameras and safety alarms.
Council will launch Open Access this year at The Mechanics Trentham and The Warehouse – Clunes, and next year at Creswick Hub and Daylesford Library.
Open Access Libraries has been rolled out with great success at both city and rural locations, including Victorian towns Numurkah and Tatura.
“We know our community highly values our libraries, and we will of course continue to have our usual staffed hours of operation where assistance is available for photocopying, book borrowing, accessing the public PCs and more,” said Cr Don Henderson.
The project is possible thanks to a $185,000 grant from the Victorian Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.
