Council has planned several recovery and resilience events across the Shire to help communities prepare for emergency events.

Each event has been tailored to meet community needs and cater to a range of ages and skill levels.

  • Working Dog Training School
  • Emergency Services Expo
  • First 72 Hours Workshop
  • Pillowcase Workshop by Australian Red Cross
  • Smart Apps for Emergencies Workshop
  • Jamie Durie: Drought proofing your garden
  • Let’s do lunch?

Mayor, Cr Don Henderson, said that the events and workshops are designed to help our communities actively prepare for disasters.

“Our community has been through a lot over the years. From bushfires to floods to droughts; we have seen it all. These workshops will help us prepare for the worst so that we are ready for anything,” said Cr Don Henderson.

“We hosted an Emergency Services Panel event earlier this year in Creswick which was a great success. Over 30 community members came together to hear from agencies such as the Victorian State Emergency Service, Victoria Police, Council and more. We hope to host more events like these in the future to reinforce the strength that comes from working together,” said Cr Don Henderson.

Happening across the Shire, the programs, talks and workshops target different problems faced by communities in the face of emergency situations.

The Smart Apps for Emergencies workshops are aimed at older adults who would like support downloading and setting up emergency services apps like VicEmergency, Emergency Plus, ABC Radio and more.

The Pillowcase Workshop is designed for children aged 8–10 and involves engaging discussions and interactive activities to help children understand the importance of being prepared during emergencies.

Excitingly, we have been able to secure Jamie Durie OAM, TV presenter, author and international landscape designer to deliver two drought-related sessions in Creswick and Trentham this September. These sessions will explore how smart landscape design and sustainable gardening practices can help reduce fire risk, conserve water, and build long-term resilience on land.
