At the meeting last night, Council awarded two important contracts that will deliver significant improvements in the Victoria Park precinct.

A contract was awarded for the upgrade of soccer sports lighting at Victoria Park in Daylesford.

Mayor, Cr Tony Clark, said that the new 100 lux level lighting upgrade will meet Football Victoria guidelines and improve health and wellbeing outcomes with increased participation in sports.

“The Daylesford and United Soccer Club has had a membership growth of 50 per cent in just two years, with more than 200 players across 12 teams, from under 8s through to seniors. Female participation, in particular, has increased significantly. These lights will make it easier for the club to train and play at night,” said Cr Clark.

Tenders for the soccer lighting project were evaluated for best value, following a public tender process. The tender was awarded to Bewired for $280,556. This project was made possible by funding from the Victorian Government’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

Additionally, Council awarded a contract for the rehabilitation of a section of Burrall Street to Berne Fleming Civil Pty Ltd for $423,299.

Each year Council allocates funds from its Capital Works Program for the renewal of sealed roads across the shire to ensure the condition of the local road network is maintained. Burrall Street in Daylesford is a key road servicing the northern areas of Daylesford and providing a connection to Victoria Park and Lake Daylesford.

“Burrall Street is currently narrow and in poor condition, with the need for stormwater drainage improvements identified. These works will bring the road in line with current standards, and enhance storm water management,” said Cr Clark.

The delivery of this project has been supported by Australian Government Roads to Recovery funding.
