At a Special Council Meeting on Tuesday 13 May, Council endorsed its draft 2025/26 Budget for public exhibition and community feedback.

Positively, the draft Budget 2025/26 proposes no increase to the annual waste service charge for kerbside collections, and the 5,600 households using the food and garden organics (organics) collection will notice a $40 reduction for the cost of their bin.

Mayor, Cr Henderson, said that while Council is under financial pressure, there are several positive outcomes for the community and the reduction in the organics fee is one of them.

“We are committed to continuing to provide the best service possible at the lowest cost to our community. We are able to maintain the current kerbside charges and even decrease the cost of the organics service by working closely with our contractor,” said Cr Henderson.

After a trial in Clunes, April marked one year since we rolled out the organics collection Shire-wide, and now around 5,600 households making the most of this service.

“A review of the way we do waste collections is under review and people are welcome to tell us about their personal experiences and any improvements that we can make,” said Cr Don Henderson.

There are two surveys available on Participate Hepburn, one for township residents and one for rural residents, residents can complete the survey that suits them best before it closes on Monday 19 May. The surveys ask about a range of resource recovery services Council offers so that we can understand how these services are being used and their potential value to residents.
