Paddock infrastructure is critical for effective and adaptive grazing management. This farm walk will practically demonstrate equipment.
The location of the field day is in Newham. The focus of this farm walk will be on practically demonstrating equipment used on this farm for moveable fencing and water troughs.
The infrastructure used is critical for effective and adaptive grazing management. This property predominately has cattle, but also has a small sheep flock. The farmers will be able to answer questions about the strengths and weakness of the equipment used for cattle and sheep. The property has also used "light" electric internal fencing to follow the land contour with a focus on slowing water movement. The use of contour banks (therefore internal fences) have been also designed with dividing the paddock in mind to make the use of the moveable system efficient and easy to use. This property has used multispecies crops for grazing. The session will include a light meal, a paddock walk and discussion. Once registered, the property address will be sent to you prior to the event.
Everyone is welcome to come along and learn from each other and discuss how your property is progressing thru the season. Topics covered at past events have varied from fencing techniques and equipment, tree planting, water infrastructure, animal and breeding choices, weed management and the list continues.
Light meal is included.
Be aware that part of the event is outside, so make sure you wear appropriate clothing and footwear, and a minor level of fitness and mobility is required.
