Council collaborates closely with key emergency services - including the Country Fire Authority (CFA), State Emergency Service (SES), Victoria Police, and other government agencies - before, during, and after emergencies. Read the information below to learn how you can prepare for an emergency, the roles and responsibilities, and how Council supports coordinated emergency response and recovery efforts.
Each year CFA declares a Fire Danger Period for each municipality (shire or council) in the lead up to the fire season. Each year the dates vary for each municipality depending on a number of factors including soil moisture, the amount of rain, grassland curing rate and fuel loads. The Fire Danger Period may be declared as early as October in some municipalities and typically remains in place until the fire danger lessens, which could be as late as May. CFA publish localised information about Fire Danger Periods, Fire Danger Ratings and Fire Restrictions/Total Fire Bans.
