Council is empowered under the Local Government Act 1989 to introduce Local Laws which help maintain good governance, good order and public safety.
Local Law No 1 – Meeting Procedures 2014
Local Law No 1 was largely superseded by the Governance Rules and Election Period Policy adopted by Council in 2020. The two documents provide a mechanism to facilitate the good governance of Council through its formal meeting procedures to ensure open, efficient and effective Council decisions are made in a manner which acknowledges the role of local government within the Australian system of Government.
Local Law No 2 – Community Amenity and Municipal Places
Local Law No 2 covers areas such as:
- Public street and road usage
- Alcohol consumption
- Burning of offensive materials
- Keeping of animals.
The Local Law No 2 was adopted at the 18 February 2020 Council meeting.
Local Law No 3 – Operation and Maintenance of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems
Local Law No 3 provides the mechanisms to allow for enforcement to ensure the maintenance of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems.
