Council is empowered under the Local Government Act 1989 to introduce Local Laws which help maintain good governance, good order and public safety.
Local Law No 1 – Meeting Procedures 2014 provides a mechanism to facilitate the good governance of Council through its formal meeting procedures to ensure open, efficient and effective Council decisions are made in a manner which acknowledges the role of local government within the Australian system of Government.
General Local Law No 2 – Community Amenity and Municipal Places covers issues such as:
- Public street and road usage
- Alcohol consumption
- Burning of offensive materials
- Keeping of animals.

Local Law No 3 – Operation and Maintenance of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems provides the mechanisms to allow for enforcement to ensure the maintenance of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems.
