Taking a moment to thank our volunteers

National Volunteer Week 2025, 19-25 May, celebrates the power of volunteering to bring people together with the theme ‘Connecting Communities’.  

Council would like to take a moment to recognise and thank the volunteers in our community who donate their time to support others.  

Mayor, Cr Don Henderson said that volunteering creates relationships that enrich lives and strengthen communities. 

“Volunteering is at the heart of communities and by giving up our time to support others we can help to foster community engagement, connection and belonging,” said Cr Don Henderson. 

“Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who give up their time to support our community,” said Cr Don Henderson. 

According to the latest Census data, around 21 per cent of our population, nearly 3,000 people, volunteered through an organisation in the last 12 months.  

Our Visitor Information Centres (VIC) are either wholly or partially staffed by volunteers who have a cumulative total of 95 years of service. Our knowledgeable locals are incredible people who staff our Creswick, Clunes, Daylesford and Trentham VICs and enrich the experience of those visiting.  

Additionally, we have several community members who nominate themselves to participate in our asset and advisory committees and groups and we thank them for their ongoing contributions.  

We acknowledge the spirit of connection and the incredible impact volunteers have in building inclusive and thriving communities. Community organisations are often the beating heart of communities, and we extend our thanks to those who support, assist and run these groups.
